I am delighted to report some very fast and active work on Thanet's behalf by two of our Conservative KCC Cllrs who are also TDC Ward Cllrs, who, funnily enough, are regarded by The Ezekielites as men to be cast into the 'outer darkness'.
Cllr Mike Jarvis, has registered his concerns about the debris on the roadside at Manston to KCC and pressed for action after going and visiting the site to see with his own eyes what the problem is. It would seem that Case No: 10602369 is about to be investigated by a Mr Chris Neat, a Highways Inspector and enforcement officer and hopefully this problem will be resolved very quickly. Cllr Jarvis informs 'Strife' that he has copied his correspondence to KCC Cllr Hibberd and kept him in the loop.
In respect of the disgraceful and dangerous condition of Beacon Rd in Broadstairs that has been highlighted by Cllr Mark Nottingham, Cllr Chris Wells has badgered KCC with the result that the dangerous state of this road will be addressed by KCC Highways for most of next week. Here is KCC's announcement:
Urgent short term road closure - Beacon Road, Broadstairs - from 16 March 2010
Because of urgent carriageway repairs due to serious potholes, it will be necessary to close Beacon Road, Broadstairs.
This is due to commence from Tuesday 16 March 2010 and it is planned the road will be closed for 4 days, between the hours of 9.30 am and 2.30 pm, as a result of these works.
The road will be closed between the junctions of Cecilia Grove and Reading Street Road. The alternative route for through traffic is via Westover Road, Northdown Hill, Green Lane and George Hill Road.
The works are being undertaken on behalf of Kent Highway Services.
I am sure readers will appreciate that the immediate responses and committment by these two Cllrs, having had problems brought to their attention , is commendable.
Whilst the 'nitty gritty' of holes in the roads and dumped waste material in the highway might be a boring aspect of Council work when compared to the exciting aspects of TC, visits to China and claiming credit for millions of Labour Govt expenditure in Thanet, it is exactly these basic issues that impact on our daily lives as Thanet citizens and that need prompt action and attention by Cllrs. My congratulations to both Cllr Jarvis and Cllr Wells for moving so fast on these issues.

07:50, a valid question. My understanding is that they were informed by their more pro-active colleagues that action had been commenced.
09:30, you are right of course but some Cllrs may be sick, on holiday or as is sometimes the case, not aware of what is going on in their 'patch'. I am always delighted to hear of prompt action and I am aware of some excellent work being done by Cllrs ( Conservative, Labour and Ind) in Margate, Westgate and elsewhere who are out on their 'patch' and talking with people and doing what they can for their Wards and not just when elections are impending.
Talking of proactive councillors,any idea which two were interviewed in Margate police Station on Friday?
I think you have rightly championed the only 2 tories locally with any care of their constituents the others seem to be invisible apart from at election time! or when they have a crony to support with a planning application or misdemenour for which they are hauled in for help run rings around the officers! sorry to say many true tories cannot support the local TDC council tories in their present form.

Worse is yet to come re roads in Broadstairs and St Peters. First the causes of Chaos want to increase the space available for pedestrians and cyclists at the Bromstone Roundabout, and second, the HSE have determined that they will decide when transco replace gas mains, so we all have to sit back and let them do it.
Beacon Rd is good its like off roading in a built up area WHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE BUMP BUMP BASH

Don, pothole filling began yesterday in Beacon Road albeit slowly and haphazardly and is ongoing today and tomorrow.
Chaos in Beacon Road with the work not starting until today so unlikely to be finished by Friday.
No 'please don't park here' signs put out until this morning so the workmen who presumably couldn't find the owners of parked cars were working round them.
Buses re-routed but no-one seemed sure where the re-routes were so some rather concerned residents wondering whether they should just go home rather than walk to the nearest available stop.
Hopefully the work will be done properlyso that it lasts for years.
Bertie, done some 'digging' on the land at manston.it appears that the MOD (as was) sold the land including the footway, so who ever owns it can dump non toxic stuff on it within the law
Thanks, Ken. That does not sound good. Are they not creating a hazard to the roadway and are KCC Highways happy with the situation?
Cllr Mike Jarvis has confirmed Cllr Ken Gregory's info that KCC does not own the side of the road but KCC Highways are enquiring with their Public Rights of Way Officer regarding a public right of way here. Cllr Jarvis suggests that Manston Parish Council might like to take up the matter as well; they might have more local knowledge and history regarding a right of way here.
