A VERY HAPPY AND PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS

Could I wish all my  team at 'Strife' , our contributors, readers and commentators a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas.

Whatever our differences, for most it is still a time to meet up with family and friends and reaffirm love and friendship and to celebrate the birth of a Child.

In ' A Christmas Carol ', Dickens wrote these words for Scrooge's nephew :

"I am sure I have always found Christmas a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable , pleasant time; the only time I know of in the long calendar of the year when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys."

So, Happy Christmas to all my 'fellow passengers' to the grave!

Some of us try to be kind and do the right thing all the year round bertie. It seems your christmas wishes are therefore hypocritical and false and given only to satisfy your need for personal vindication.

But in the spirit of the true christmas may your God ease your conscience over the festive period, and grant you the benefit of wisdom and fairness over the coming year.

Dear Bertie

Many people on The Isle of Thanet are very grateful for your blog. You provide an essential scrutiny of our public servants and seek to expose them when they become self-servants and facilitators of private interest and greed. You are always a pleasure to read. You have a genius for synthesis of often tedious information which, like an alchemist, you transform consistently into lucid well-written prose, always judged to the perfect, readable length.... a rare gift.

You are a sane, wise and compassionate voice. You act as a valuable corrective to what, for the most part, is not a functioning democracy at TDC but merely the theatre of a democracy.... and mostly the theatre of the absurd at that.

We have, in Thanet, the misfortune to have a low calibre of governance, executed in many cases by a low calibre of people. It is unsurprising therefore, that you receive that same calibre of abuse from those you make uncomfortable when you shine the virtuous light of enquiry into their tawdry activities.

My Christmas message is one of happiness and prosperity to you and your family. Keep up the valuable and altruistic work you do. Fight the good fight in 2010. Thanet is blessed to have you and should be proud of the work you do to see that decency and duty, once commonplace virtues, don't go the way of the house-sparrow in our native land.

Thank you all, for your kind greetings this Christmas. I am sorry about the lack of courtesy in a slow acknowledgement, but have been distracted by Thanet's Premier Blog and a plonker or two posting to themselves over there!

Arrrr Bertie,

Us Pirates have been a looking as well, seems to be some Ratus, Ratus (not to be confused with the more potentially contagious Black variety) involved there; over at the Premier Blog.

After a late night discussion over the Grog of 1705 it was decided they are scum and maggots or as Davy put it, not fit to shovel S**T in his lugger.

Arrrrrrr

Piracy is a commerce crime in Thanet

Bertie, rather late in the day I admit, I would like to echo the sentiments expressed by Anonymous 24 December 2009 12:55.

Keep up the good work and may 2010 prove a better year for all in Thanet and hopefully lead to a great 2011!
