WELLS & JARVIS IN AT MARGATE AND CLIFTONVILLE

Strife's roving reporter has just phoned in from The Winter Gardens with the news that all the pavement pounding by Bertie has paid off, with a little help from Gordon Brown and Cllr Chris Wells and Cllr Mike Jarvis have been elected as KCC Councillors for Margate and Cliftonville. Congratulations to them both. My commiserations go to Clive Hart and Iris Johnston who were given a bad wicket to play on by their Prime Minister.
The turnout was about 31% which is miserable and it was quite a close run thing really with UKIP and Lib Dems putting on a good show. It would seem that perhaps Conservative voters stayed at home or gave UKIP and others their votes as support for both main parties was hit by the MP's expenses scandal.
Here are the results:
Elenor (UKIP) - 1726
Hando (LibDem) - 628
Hart (Lab) - 2186
Jarvis (Con) - 2404
Johnston (Lab) - 2144
Oakes (libDeem) - 327
Wells (Con) - 2493
Other brief news indicates that Cllrs Hayton and Bayford made it in Broadstairs & Montefiore as was expected but Jenny Matterface on her first time out as a Labour Candidate, managed a very respectable 1500 odd votes which is good, given the circumstances.
.
It would appear that Liz Green is Thanet's only Labour KCC Councillor with that hard working excellent Alan Poole, losing his KCC seat. Ramsgate's vote appears to have been distorted by UKIP and Ramsgate First doing well and much to our shame perhaps, the BNP picking up 800 odd votes. Independent Cllr Bob Grove has continued the Ind tradition for Thanet villages and will be a proper Ind to join Cllr King, one hopes.
.
Perhaps Thanet's public might consider a directly elected Independent Mayor soon or, if not, in 2011 putting in a host of Independent Cllrs into TDC?

Something got to be done, we cant let Sandy Ezekiel let things sink lower ad finatum that's for sure! What ideas have you Bertie it's quite a depressing prospect Thanet being left behind because of the low calibre of the Tories in charge and no prospect of a change, a routing at the polls may have meant a clean up ordered from head office but nothing looks likely at the moment? We can only hope the combination of Jarvis, Wells, Bayford and Hayton can send the message en masse to Maidstone and beyond that all is not well with the local leadership of the Tories in east kent, problem is i'm not sure if anyone is interested? Roger Gale doesnt seem to be and Laura Sandys doesnt seem to think it will affect her chances?!

Poor Clive Hart after last weeks letter in the Gazette telling the good folk they needed him and Iris, seems thay new better, i am sure he is sad, but then he is a sad person anyway

Clive worked very hard for his constituents and was much more dedicated than many others, he didnt deserve to loose but i'm afraid that is politics for you!

Labour have taken the drubbing that was expected and many would argue they deserved. But let's not forget 1997 and the Tory implosion. They have rebounded, and so will Labour. The Tories will face another nemesis in the future - I am pleased to say.

clive is a lightweight and a loser according to some of his fellow labour buddies he may not last as leader as long as Gordon Brown, crikey thats bad

It was interesting being at the count on Friday and seeing Laura Sandys acting as Queen Bee with all the Tories swanning around in her wake. Roger gale looked rather out of sorts but perhaps he didn't like being upstaged by her.

That's interesting.. Clive can't spell "Lose" either and anonymous here spells it the same as Clive, "Loose"..!

I suspect 21.40 that at County Hall the Carter Team will be claiming that the people of Kent have given a resounding vote of support to the incumbent regime. They will ignore that it was 'make Labour pay' or lets hit all main Westminster parties. My understanding is that the Conservative vote was hit severely, so in no way was it an endorsement as is likely to be claimed.

This will of course enable them to waste tax-payers money with the same profligacy that they have already demonstrated: Kent TV, Turner Mk1 and Snohetta Legal Fees,Icelandic deposits; excessive price for 70 acres at Manston Business Park, when the land purchased included non developable sections. That will not stop them from claiming we cannot release land to CGP because it would be at a loss! Other more enlightened administrations might consider a small loss to the tax payer (far less than on Turner and Icelandic bank deposits)might just enable CGP to start development and create jobs.

I am not sure that many care one jot about the true identity behind anonymous contributors, but it does seem to excite certain local Tories to the point of obsession.

Councillor/Doctor Moores, you have persistently claimed to be able to establish the identity of everyone posting on blogs, and indeed this claim was part of your threats against several bloggers about 15 months ago.

Might I suggest you concentrate on flying and your various other business activities and leave the detective work to Miss Marple.

13.53 you're forgetting that Doctor Moores is an honorary 4 star general in the FBI!

ECR + LucyMail = Richard Spillet.

17.52, I don't think Cllr Moores has ever claimed that distinction and 20:02, forgive me but I do not grasp that posting at all!

I suspect anon 20:02 was trying to tell you the true identity of ECR and Lucy.

With respect to Richard Spillet, I think Dickie might find that amusing!
