NO SURPRISE AS EZEKIEL GETS THE GUYS HE WANTS

So there were no surprises last night at Margate Charter Trustees Meeting, except one. As I warned Cllr Hart and his absent  Labour Charter Trustees, if you fail to attend and do not join in, do not be surprised when The Ezekielites do as they clearly intended to do last week and thus appoint 'Mauwice's' and 'Martin's' fellow Cliftonville East Ward Cllr, Brian Sullivan as Deputy Mayor for 2010/11.
Here is last night's Press Release:

Following the extraordinary meeting of the Margate Charter Trustees this evening, the Worshipful The Town Mayor of Margate for the remainder of this municipal year 2010/2011 is Cllr Michael Tomlinson.
The Deputy Mayor for the same period is Cllr Brian Sullivan.
Bothe the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be sworn into office in an investiture to take place in The Mayor's Parlour on Wednesday 24th February at 19:00

For Cllr Johnston, last night must have been like walking into the Lion's Den. Where was your Leadership and support Cllr Hart and other Labour Trustees, for the longest serving Charter Trustee, whose services to Margate and its electorate in her ward,  have still yet to be recognised by an election as Mayor or Deputy Mayor by The Charter Trustees? Instead the Ezekiel Party has elected as Mayor  (a town Burgess) and a former Mayor (as Deputy) as expected. You are all as responsible for last nights travesty, as the manipulating Ezekielites,  who quite clearly did not want Cllr Johnston as a Deputy Mayor.

I now come to the one surprise that leaves me flabbergasted with the utter disregard for the feelings of the electorate in Margate and lack of  integrity that exists amongst The Ezekielites. Not only did former Conservative Party Cllr and disgraced late Mayor, Ted Watt-Ruffell  attend The Charter Trustees (has the man no sense of  propriety?) but I am reliably informed that he actually proposed Mick Tomlinson as Mayor which was then seconded by Cllr Ezekiel !

So let's re-build the public confidence in The Mayoralty and last year's disastrous Ezekiel choice by having  last year's disastrous choice, propose his replacement and presumably vote with the other Ezekielites as required by their  twice disgraced (two Standards raps) Leader.
One couldn't invent this sorry saga if one tried.

'for the remainder of this municipal year 2010/2011'. I thought the 'municipal year' for the mMyor ended in April so '2010/2011' is hardly 'this municipal year.'

I think there is an 'and' missing, 22.06! The press release must have been hurried out after the meeting?

To be honest Bertie I couldn't give a jot about the Mayoralty, as it doesn't stand for Margate as it once did. It is totaly lacking in passion and belief in the town like a tool of the established order of things it will remain very much the same as it always has done.

Because an institution is made a mockery of by those who are in a position to do so, Tony, does that really mean the instititution should now be abandoned?

Why don't the people of Margate elect their own Mayor like they do in Lewisham and other towns now?

And when the a*********l shuts up at TDC as well? But we the electorate would be questioning who the real a********l is at TDC?

I would still like to know what was said by two councillors at a meeting of the Margate Cemetery Friends Group a few years ago. And whether this is reflected in the declaration of members' interests.

I refer to the Mandelson factor, "Assistance" with the purchase of their homes.

I would hate to think who buys the home buys the mayor.

This is a time now for all to try to join together - some personalities will never do this but for this wonderful town and the people in it please all just try to get on with what is right and put the nastiness away.

i agree with the earlier comments, it is time to have a mayor of Thanet, such a waste all the baggage that goes with the mayor - a driver for each mayor to hang around at every event that we pay for!"our shirl" will still be able to go around in the big hats!
I thought Cllr Sullivan was so useless as deputy mayor that that is what caused the start of the winter gardens fracas, he is certainly a pretty ineffectual ward councillor speaking from experience!

maybe the whole sorry saga of the mayor will make the Conservatives take care who they select as prospective ward councillors in the future and no-one else with a past might be chosen! there are quite a "few would be's" in that category i believe

Bertie,
Considering that virtualy everthing else in Margate has been abandoned the answer would be yes. Perhaps now is the time to look at the concept of a New Margate as nothing seems to be working at the moment.

Bertie you are quite right in the issue of the missing Leader Fuhrer Hart, who continually orders his members not to attend functions events etc.Poor Iris indeed, when her ambitions are not supported by her Leader and only two other "brave" members seem have ignored his dictat and turned out in her support, Rather than dictat should I say dictator all of which are bullies!!! none more so than Hart even his lovely wife was not allowed to attend, what a sorry plight, but then I understand that he (Hart) may not be looking forward to his group's AGM.

13.01, an interesting comment in a well known style and presentation. I will say no more.

16.26, you seem up to flying speed on Labour Charter Trustee attendence; were you there as a Trustee? I have been told by Clive hart by e-mail that he does not have a diktatconcerning Labour Trustees and that has been confirmed by others. I have been assured that Mrs Hart would have been in attendance (she was last week) had it not been for illness.

This is playground nonsense. If most of the people involved in this post don't grow up and behave like intelligent adults, and that includes the author I'm afraid, there really is no hope for Margate. The only person who makes sense is Tony Beachcomber. Put your toy guns away and get on with something constructive. Real people in this century don't care about the office of mayor anyway. You'll be saying we should keep hireditary peers next!

13:01, some of Thanet's bloggers (including Bertie) have far more influence on Thanet than any of the majors do for better or worse...but then you probably know that already! : )

Fiona, the difference is that our Margate Mayor is elected by Charter Trustees and is our Civic representative. As such, the incumbent can be a positive influence for promoting the town and promoting good charitable works. The reverse of that is when the incumbent just takes the allowance and does little or,as has sadly happened recently, brings the office and town into disrepute.

Sullivan has had a go at being an ineffectual mayor already he didnt do much then to promote the town so what is to say he will improve on his record? why not give someone else with a bit more go a chance, we have had years of ineffectual Ezekiel lackies.
Time for the likes of you to start an alternative independant conservative party Bertie! and congratulations on 2 years of existence - what can be your claims to fame - downfall of Broadhurst? raising awareness to other true blues in Thanet of how far removed many of our local conservative party councillors and hangers on are from the real values of Conservatives and how they make an appearance of "standing for their own and their cronies benefits" and and NOT the local community as a whole might be another important message which you are spreading and why you have quipped them the "Ezekiel party"?
Tory Central office has had enough messages sent to them but keep a deaf ear to it all!

My post should have said "mayors" not "majors", oops! It's been a long day...

The Charter Trustees came about in 1974. Now if the Margate of today is compared to the Margate of 1974 the difference paints a very sad picture.Obviously this downward spriral is not entirely the fault of the Charter Trustees, but somewhere along the line one would have expected the Mayor of Margate to at least say something about it. I know that a few Mayor's have been very passionate about the town in the past but they have been the minority.
I just find it hard to understand how someone can be elected as the Town's first citizen and not have anything to say about the recent spiral of decline.
One fine example of the impotence of the position of the Mayor of Margate has to be the closure of the Margate Museum. The Museum holds the history of Margate and tells the story of the people who lived their in the past it is our heritage. Now I would have thought the Mayor and Charter Trustees would have at least said something when it closed or got together for a alternative solution. Something would have been better than just letting it happen, it is almost as if they didn't care.

Fiona S

A lot of our generations gave their everything for you to comment as well as us - and keep in place our rich heritage and quirky trappings of which are envied worldwide !!!

Please remember that!!

Well said Tony if a Mayor does not engage with the community how on earth can he/she gain the trust and respect of the community as a whole and not just developers?

The Thanet Mayors need to be more vocal on local and Thanet matters.

We the public pay the gerrymander.

16:55, please try not to be so rude about other commentators and Cllr Hart; it does you no credit.
