ANOTHER THANET POTPOURRI

The seagulls taking up residence on my neighbour's chimney and the heating up of political sniping between Tory and Labour 'blogs' is a sign that spring is on its way and that we must have KCC Elections soon. What a strange week it has been in Thanet.
.
'Thanetlife' is almost back to what it used to be whilst ECR is taking a break and Dave Green on Eastcliff Matters appears to have been silenced again or 'bloggered'. I wonder if Standards are being called in and is it something to do with heaps of rubbish and a 'bin-lady'? Perhaps 'Mauwice' has realised that 'Our Ken' needs a bit of help in countering all the Labour Councillors Blogs and hence 'Life' is setting about Mark Nottingham's sartorial habits. A gentleman should never comment about another chap's sartorial indiscretions; it is just not done, Simon.
.
We had TDC talking to 'Euroferries' in Ramsgate Harbour but with whom they were actually in discussion with remains a mystery as Euroferries seems an odd looking set up and a 'name' only; it's whether there are serious investors behind them that is the real question? And if so, who are they?
.
BAWC/GSS buzzed into Manston to talk to that nice New Zealander and eye up the real estate whilst residents of Ramsgate were shaken out of bed at 05.30 am last Sunday. I am not really up to all this S.106 business rushed through by TDC last week, but it seems to me that unless you actually have penalty clauses for 747s coming in or going out when they shouldn't be, effectively you have a 106 agreement that is meaningless and Manston, in reality, is 'open all hours'.
.
The 'pot-hole' in Grafton Road has not only been filled in but no sooner had I questioned 'Why not repair the whole mini-network of holes there?', blow me down, the whole area in Grafton Road has been given a make-over by KCC! Well done for them .
.
On the subject of 'holes', the lack of serious industrious activity in Southern Gas' hole in St Peter's is being closely monitored by locals, even if not by their Tory Councillors. A man watching another man working was heard to say " This elfansafety inspector sez the 'ole size ain't right and we might 'ave to stop'. I hadn't realised they had done that much so far. How's that song go...?
"Don't dig 'ere, dig it elsewhere, yor diggin it round an it outa be square............"
.
The move to a new building has obviously taken the Gazunder team time to adjust to, as the screaming front page this week told us about the 'bin strike' that never was. An awful fuss about nothing, (reminds me of China Gateway now), but at least IOTG got its money from TDC for the full page advert advising us 'Friday and Monday people' not to put our rubbish out. How will TDC now collect rubbish for those who obeyed the missive from their Council ? All a bit of a mess for the 'bin-lady' to sort out?

Having speculated earlier in 'Strife' as to the reason behind all these Tory Councillors being roped in by Mauwice to be 'lead members' on portfolios (unkindly described as jobs for the boys and girls) I am still of the opinion that it is to 'bolster' his position. Despite denials that extra 'dosh' was going to be involved, it is interesting that £500 extra for each Councillor involved had actually been agreed by 'The Remuneration wallahs' but 'will not be taken up'. I wonder why not? Nothing about reducing 'dosh' for those with less to do, though, like 'Woger'.
.
All is now in place for elections for Ramsgate Town Councillors to take place at the same time as the KCC Elections but should prospective Ramsgate Town Councillor's be wary? Having heard this week about the toxic mess that still has to be sorted at Thor, I was surprised to hear a rumour from Ramsgate that a 'toxic debt' from TDC is coming the new Council's way. It all seems odd but it would appear to be about 'allotments'. Is TDC really about to hand Ramsgate Town Council an immediate financial 'poisoned-chalice' for G'OD and other Councillors who might get elected? Rumour is that the planned 'precept' needs to be doubled. TDC hates the idea of a Ramsgate Council and is this a petty way to nobble this upstart 'body' at its inception?

Eastclif goes to retire, and Doctor ( Non-medical, American somewhere ) Moores returns to life! Even more feisty than usual!

Me thinks he has been thrown a tit bit from the master's ( not MA by the way! ) table and instead of being a member of the gang of three having ago at his leader; is now a happy lap dog doing as his master bids! Woof woof!

Bertie, 'sartorial indiscretion' was me being ordered out of the mess at Lympstone by the C/O for daring to walk in for some forgotten reason still wearing my tracksuit. If I had worn a tracksuit and tie I might just have got away with it!

Jeans and T-shirt at a council meeting go beyond a gentleman's grasp of proper respect for the role but anyway, without the heating-up of the political debate, in the absence of ECR there wouldn't be that much to amuse the readers with out there.

Re. the St. Peter's gas main work. It's now starting to move towards Vicarage Street so heaven help us then. The village will be dead as it'll become more and more difficult to find a way through from any side.

No contact from any councillors to date.

RE. the sartorial debate, I went to Holy Communion this morning at 8a.m. in jeans. Quite acceptable in my church. There is one member of the congregation who wears trainers and tracksuit bottoms. No-one comment from anyone.

I see we have a 'creature of the night' back, 00.33! There is a certain resonance in your posting that sounds familiar?

I tend to agree with you about dressing appropriately for the event being attended, Simon and perhaps certain Councillors might need to consider changing their tailors but that is really up to them. Lively exchanges as we head towards KCC elections are to be anticipated with some enjoyment.

Have we really fallen so far s to be talking like old ladies about councillors (lack of) dress style. Will there soon be gossip columns dedicated to the latest shirt and tie combos of the... I do hope not.

I rather agree with you on the'creature of the night' Bertie and quite frankly, I don't give a damn what he thinks, non-medical or otherwise. It's quite irrelevant and quite clearly nobody else gives a damn either.

Woof woof!

You are quite right.Increasing signs of desparation from the opposition as the KCC elections approach. Readers may ask how many Labour councillors are "full time" District and KCC councillors with no other reliable form of income.

So losing one's seat and losing one's job are the same thing and the writing is on the wall. One can only imagine how hard the recession will have hit by June!

Glad to hear you are so confident Dr Moores, however with a totally discredited leadership buying favours with new appointments and no visible opposition within the ranks it could be a little harder than you think.

Dear Creature of the Night (00.03),
I am sorry but I have had to edit your comment. I have inserted CAPITALS/***** showing my replacement/editing:

I see that (DR MOORES) is back blogging again!

He is obviously someone who cannot resist seeing his own (*******) thoughts on the screen.

For shame! I would have thought that by now the (*******)Doctor Who would have known that while he continues to blog about how wonderful he is; his nemisis the dark side 1.08 would continue to show the world what a (************) the good Doctor, Non medical, is! ( Apologies for the poor grammar!)

=======================
This is the last time I will edit your comments 00.03 or allow them to be posted. If you have a personal gripe with Cllr Moores plese take it up with him on Thanet Life.

Old Moores must have been at Lympstone about the same time as me, 1978. I wonder if he got his mess rocket from the CO or from the Commandant as I did!

What course were you on Simon, POC or PRMC?

Bertie, I am reluctant to start posting again on your site, but in the interests of accuracy, Simon is doing his own thing, Me I can deal with the Labour lot on my own. Some I respect, some I loath. others, I have no view upon. I can say I have never shaken Gordon Browns hand, and would never do so. Mike Harrison should be applauded for his handling of the Airport Working Party, He alone has done more for thanet than many others.

Bertie Biggles said...

Ken, nice to have you visit. I loathe Labour nationally but locally is a different matter. I am surprised that you use such a strong word like 'loathe'in regard to fellow Councillors of a different political persuasion; were you not a fellow Labour member, like Cllr Watt-Ruffel before your conversion?

Ken Gregory said...

Bertie,

Members of political parties are ,surprisingly, people, i do not 'loathe' because of political persuasion, but because of the person.

To get away from the personal attacks here perhaps I could inform anyone who wants to visit St. Peter's for shopping, a coffee, a funeral or a wedding to plan their route with military precision as the area is virtually cut-off from the rest of Thanet. Two men working at snail's pace; inadequate signage leading to vehicles having to do a u-turn in St. Peter's High Street; traders facing melt-down'gridlock in St. Peter's Road;frayed tempers and so on.

For heaven's sake, stop worrying about whether or not anyone wore a tie and get down to basics.

With the amount of dysfunction and handbag throwing being demonstrated here, it is no wonder that Thanet is in such a mess!
