KNOW YOUR MASTERS

With the Speaker of The Commons spending a great amount of tax-payers hard earned cash to live in the style that most of us can only dream of , I thought I might put up a snippet sent to me by carrier pigeon today. How true it is I just don't know but it seems plausible. Make your own minds up!

' Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 600 employees and has the following statistics?
29 have been accused of spouse abuse
7 have been arrested for fraud
19 have been accused of writing bad cheques
117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
3 have done time for assault
71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
4 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8 have been arrested for shoplifting
21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
84 have been arrested for drink driving in the last year

Which organization is this?
It's the 635 members of the House of Commons, the same group that cranks out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line. '

Very amusing indeed is there a breakdown of these figures somewhere, I find the drink driving figure unbelievable though, don’t think it can apply to just one year or there would have been more in the news.

I did notice a little piece in The Isle of Thanet Gazette this week saying that TDCs Conservative leaders have rejected a plea its councillors checked for criminal records this week, that made me wonder what these figures would be if applied to our own dead council.

Two thoughts here one I wrote dead council instead of dear council in my previous comment, sorry, and Rick I never know how to reply to your comments so sorry once again.

Having thought long and hard about your posting Rick, I have decided to edit it and you must forgive me for so doing. Whilst I accept that what you are telling us about sounds a pretty sordid tale, it is to some extent history and where you are making conjecture as opposed to reporting fact, I have had to delete as I feel appropriate.

The position, as I understand it, taken by North Thanet Tories, at the time Cllr Margaret Mortlock sued for libel (successfully) then assn vice chair ex Cllr Maison, was this.

That prospective councillors made a declaration when offering themselves for selection.

A question arose as to:

(a) Whether Maison had a conviction from Pontefract Magistrates circa 1980/ 81 for assault. Or whether he had accepted a caution in what may have been a road rage incident involving an older driver.
--------

(h) The position of TDC was that Freemasonry (like criminal records it seems) are an exception to the rule for councillors declaring interest.

Freemasonry at its Craft levels especially can tend to appeal to the less able. A simplistic view of family first, job second, society third. A slavish view to protecting a masonic brother's reputation in his absence.

And finally (little bit of blog psychology) is North Thanet Tory Party still a bit sensitive about the above issues ?

The blog under suspension deleted some of my contributions and banned me from site for a while.

But intriguingly the "Mitigation" that little concession to truth that can be so telling. When the doc commented he wrote "IRA matters only loosely connected with Margate".

No longer denying the validity of my arguments. But changing ground to trying to mitigate against them. "Well perhaps it is true but not as bad as you imply"

Next step is of course the acknowledgement.

Hence I infer that there was discussion which wrought a change of position of the doctor councillor.

Have to say I enjoyed this little article, and was then just ever so slightly apalled by the implications. Whats the source of the info, and is there more depth in the original stuff?

Chris, I am afraid I have no idea of its source or veracity. It was sent by a friend attached to a well known tale of 'The Death of Commonsense'that was doing the rounds 18 months ago and I almost missed it!
Like you, I enjoyed it nevertheless!
